YE OLDE BLACK HORSE
Ye Olde Black Horse is Rottingdean’s oldest pub with its home on the high street dating back to 1513. This is a traditional village pub with three separate areas –
MAIN BAR & DINING AREA
Join us to dine from our regularly changing menu of home-cooked pub meals and gastro specialities in our comfortable dining area or just enjoy a drink sat around the old log burner.
Our refurbished traditional bar themed around Rottingdean's smuggling history, in which the Black Horse was certainly involved! A warm and interesting place to enjoy a pint from our wide range of ales that include local brews and cask cider. Of course, we also offer a full range of draught and bottled lagers, a varied wine list and extensive selection of spirits. We are also happy to serve you with food in this bar as an alternative to our dining area.
The snug nestles between the other bar areas providing a quiet and intimate spot. In here you are in the oldest part of the building and sitting above the old entrance connecting the pub to the network of smugglers tunnels running under the high street.
AL-FRESCO DINING GARDEN
Seating upto 80 people Our tranquil, Tropical garden is the ideal setting for Lunch & dinner.. With covered areas, awnings, heaters, blankets & hot water bottles provided for all year round outdoor dining.
“The Black”, as we are known locally, has a variety of faces – for the most part a traditional village pub and atmosphere complete with popular pub quiz every Wednesday evening. Friday nights see things liven up from 9.30pm with a different live singer every week performing anything from ratpack and show tunes through 70’s and 80’s classics, right up to modern day popular tracks.
Sunday afternoons through autumn and winter are a definite alternative to snoozing in your armchair with a different cabaret act every week providing easy listening music or comedy by seasoned performers from the nations cabaret circuit – crooners, musical theatre stars, drag artists – it’s varied and always entertaining!
